Herbal Code

The PAGB Medicines Advertising Codes for Traditional Herbal Medicines was offically adopted in 2007, following the implementation of the Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive (Council Directive 2004/24/EC). This meant that herbal medicines which were previously unable to obtain a Marketing Authorisation are now able to apply for Traditional Use Registration under the Traditional Herbal Medicines Registration Scheme.

The current PAGB Medicines Advertising Codes only apply to OTC medicines which have a Marketing Authorisation. Hence, there was a need to produce a version of the code which applies to registered traditional herbal medicines.

The Code applies to any products in PAGB membership which are licensed under theTraditional Herbal Medicines Registration Scheme.
