Minor Illness Management
The Working in Partnership Programme (WiPP) was set up under the nGMS to support general practice with capacity building resources and strategies. Its pioneering £11m programme ran from 2004 to June 2008, and during this time a wide range of valuable tools and resources were developed, including online training courses, best practice guides, toolkits and frameworks to create capacity and support NHS professionals.
WiPP’s valuable work on Minor Illness Management can now be found in this section of the PAGB website.
Research commissioned by PAGB and conducted by IMS Health reveals that 57 million GP consultations a year (200,000 consultations per day) involve minor ailment discussion, 90% of which (51.4 million) are for minor ailments alone. This equates to over an hour a day for every GP.
Below you will find a package of resources to support practices, pharmacists and PCTs to plan and develop their strategies for managing demand for minor illness appointments.
