Donna Castle

Executive Director of Policy and Communications

Donna Castle joined PAGB in January 2015.  She is responsible for media relations, policy development, public affairs, stakeholder engagement, digital communications, member communications and membership.

Donna is a public relations expert with a specialism in public affairs/lobbying. She has been a Chartered PR Practitioner since November 2015, after being assessed by a panel of her peers on strategy, ethics and leadership. In 2018, Donna was named as one of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) 70 at 70 for her outstanding and consistent contribution to the Institute and the wider PR community.

Donna has worked in healthcare communications for almost two decades. In her time at the British Lung Foundation she contributed to the successful multi-organisation campaign for the introduction of the ban on smoking in enclosed public places and workplaces. At Diabetes UK, Donna and her team organised a lobby of Parliament for more than 220 children with diabetes and their parents, which led to the introduction of a Private Members’ Bill and put the issue of healthcare support for children in schools on the political agenda.

Donna was Head of Public Affairs and Policy at the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy at the time then Health Secretary, Andrew Lansley, brought forward his reforms of the NHS. Donna undertook detailed policy work with NHS physiotherapists and partnered with other trade unions and healthcare organisations to secure key amendments to the legislation as it passed through Parliament.

In addition to these roles, Donna has also worked in two full-service communications agencies, supporting a range of healthcare clients on media relations and public affairs programmes.
