Self-Care Strategy Group publish new consensus letter

Members of the Self-Care Strategy Group have signed a new consensus statement, published this week, which sets out what needs to happen to deliver on the Government’s commitments to self-care outlined in the 10 Year Health Plan.

The Self-Care Strategy Group, for which PAGB provides the secretariat, is comprised of leading pharmacy groups, healthcare organisations, trade associations and charities committed to self-care that stand ready to support the Government in implementing policies which fully capitalise on the benefits of self-care.

The implementation of the 10 Year Health Plan, and its vision for a prevention-first, digitally enabled neighbourhood health service, offers a pivotal opportunity to embed self-care as a core component of health and care delivery. This new statement focuses on the importance of empowering citizens, integrating community pharmacy into neighbourhood health, ensuring digital inclusion, and embedding accountability across local delivery.

Delivering the vision set out in the 10 Year Heath Plan will require strong leadership, clear accountability, and close collaboration between Government, NHS England (NHSE), Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), neighbourhood health teams, and wider partners, including community pharmacy.

The statement has been shared with key policymakers including health ministers. The Self-Care Strategy Group welcome further detailed discussion about the recommendations the letter outlines and to explore opportunities to progress the future of self-care in the NHS.
